When the Dutch Corina ten Napel (19) had to choose a city to travel to through an Internship programme, she dropped countries such as Austria and Hungary for Bodø.
Even her boyfriend back home in the Netherlands was unable to persuade Ten Napel to move away from the idea of Bodø.
According to the 19-year-old, her boyfriend was not particularly excited, but:
– We have already planned for him to visit and experience the city, says Ten Napel smiling to Bodø Nu.
The 19-year-old came to Bodø just over two weeks ago and has taken up an internship position at the local marketing company Seria. Here she works as a graphic designer, in addition to some photo assignments.
The Dutch girl had never been to Norway before she decided to get on the plane from Amsterdam and travel north. She is very positively surprised by Bodø, and couldn’t be happier, she explains.
– What drew you to Bodø?
– It was the Nordic nature and the varied climate, definitely. I came here last month and will stay until June. So then I will hopefully get to experience both winter, spring and summer if I’m lucky, she says.
Although the Netherlands is not exactly known as a “Mecca of the mountain world”, the 19-year-old admits that despite this she is a keen hiker and looks forward to exploring the mighty mountains around Bodø, both on foot and on skis.
– The nature here was very decisive when I made the choice of where to travel. I’ve never skied before and can’t wait to test it out. It will also be fun to explore the city and experience a different culture than the one I am used to from home.
The nature here was very decisive when I made the choice of where to travel.
Corina ten Napel
The first impression of the city is very good, she also boasts about her new workplace and colleagues:
– I have been very well received at the workplace, and I have also been given a lot of responsibility and freedom in my role at Seria, she explains.
The Dutch have already had a taste of the rich cultural life in Bodø:
– I was at several of the concerts during the Bodø Jazz Open and had a great time, concludes ten Napel.
