Seria

A design, communication and web development agency that helps clients succeed in all channels. Whether that is photography, web design, folders, logos or branding, at Seria the individually talented workers create it all.

The company

Is a creative design, marketing and web development agency based in Bodø. We are a team with extensive experience in the industry, consisting of developers, graphic designers, consultants, a marketing team, a content creator and photographer

Seria was started by 4 founders in 2003 who wanted to create a business together. The company was founded in a cafe in the center of Bodø, and the name came from Latin script on furniture in the same room. In the past, Seria’s focus area has been web development, and helping customers succeed online. This is still important, in addition to promoting new skills. There has previously been more focus on technology than the visuals. We at Seria believe it is important to feel ownership of our projects, and to be proud of what we deliver, both internally and to our customers. Click this link to see our work for yourself!

The Internship

If it does not challenge you, it will not change you

In the beginning of your internship you will receive a presentation about what you are going to do and learn at Seria, inspired by your own wants and needs. During your application for the Erasmus fonds you will have to describe your passions and interests, this gives your future employees at seria the perfect image about what you want to learn. There is also a lot of room for yourself to present certain ideas and tasks you would like to do and learn more about, for example learning Norwegian. This kind of room gives you time to discover new passions within graphic design, but there are also possibilities to learn more about the business side or about content creating like photography.

During your time here you will learn to develop your social skills and be able to comfortably work independently. Learn a lot, practice your skills, make mistakes, get to know your colleagues and come back with fulfilled learning goals.

In school you practice and learn theoretical information, now it is time to use those skills in the practical world of design. We are very aware you are taking this internship to learn and gain more knowledge, so there is no need to be nervous.  Colleagues at Seria are always there to guide you through the process. This is really a “one in a lifetime” experience, chance and possibility. Not one of our interns voiced any regrets only words of joy and enthusiasm.

"My absolute favourite place in Bodø is the viewing point at the Nordlandsmuseet Bodøsjøen friluftsmuseum. Climb the rocks and find yourself a good spot to enjoy the sunset, sunrise and if your lucky the northern lights. The stunning view is far enough from the city lights to enjoy your sightseeing to the fullest, making it possible to see such sights as the northern lights. There is also a sort-off secret bench on one of the rocks, making it a prefect opportunity to read a book or chill with friends."

"I can name so many places you have to visit while being here. To sum up some places I really enjoyed: Misvær, Kjerringøy, Fauske, keizervarden and Mjelle. Even Linken, a place up the hill near Flatvold is really fun to go to and the view is even better. Don't hesitate asking your colleagues at Seria to take you somewhere. They are happy to bring you or even go with you to show you around. If you are here during the month June, you can also explore the environment during midnight-sun, so it's basically light out 24/7."

"If you are in downtown Bodø and you want a good coffee or a bite to eat, then I really recommend Berbusmel. It is a really nice café with lots of space to study, but it is also nice for a brunch with friends! When I got the chance to go to Berbusmel I always went there. You are also very close to harbour and the popular glass shopping hall in downtown Bodø."

"Bike or walk around Bodø and discover the environment. From spray painted buildings, to the harbour, Bodø offers it all. The good flow and vibe in the city is perfect for the weekdays and the weekend and on Sunday's we go in to the nature surrounding it and walk the many trails in the mountains. I would advise you to just go and end up somewhere. When I did that, I discovered the most amazing places."

"I was able to spot northern lights from the mountain Keiservarden. I recommend taking a walk there, not only is it possible to take see the northern lights there, but is the view from the top also amazing. I would also recommend the easter breakfast at the Nordlys hotel. The breakfast there is incredible and not too pricy."

Anne could of travelled anywhere in the world, but she chose Bodø

Anne de Ridder one of our interns got the chance to tell about herself and her journey to finding seria to the local digital newspaper

When the Dutch Anne de Ridder had to choose a place to do her internship spoke the cultural life in Berlin and the nature in Austria to her immediately. When the eighteen-year-old came across Bodø, she realised that she could combine the best of both worlds. Then the choice was easy and she now has an internship at Seria in Bodø.

The 18-year-old girl studies graphic design in the Netherlands at Cibap a vocational school. The art school is known for being one of the leading vocational schools in the Netherlands for design. She is in her fourth and final year of education and is ready for her last internship.

She could have gone almost anywhere in the world, but she chose Bodø and so far she has no regrets. In the last week of august, the 18-year-old arrived in Bodø after an exciting trip and a bit of a touristic route from the Netherlands: First I traveled by boat from Groningen to Kristiansand at night. From there I traveled by train to Oslo in the morning. I spent one night in Oslo with friends, before splitting up and taking a bus to Lillehammer at night. From Lillehammer I took a night-train to Trondheim, and changed trains there, before traveling the last leg to Bodø. All in all, the trip took 36 hours, Anne smiles broadly.

Despite a somewhat difficult itinerary, the student is satisfied with the trip: I got to see a lot of Norway. It was a very enjoyable experience especially with the beautiful view I had from the train and I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

She has now been here for 3 weeks and is so far enjoying herself very well in her apprenticeship. Seria is an approved internship company for Cibap, the school Anne studies at, and therefore Bodø and Seria were a natural choice. – You are here to learn. In the Netherlands, people have experienced being exploited, and put to tasks that are not relevant to the education – for example washing dishes. I was very well received here, with a full presentation and good information about the company. I have heard a lot of good things about Seria from students who have been here before, says Anne happily.

Anne could have chosen an internship anywhere in the world, but liked what Bodø and Seria had to offer. She also says that there is room to come up with ideas, input and wishes for what she would like to learn more about. Right now she is working on developing an information website for other students who are considering an internships in Bodø and at Seria.

In addition to the fact that she thrives at Seria, she has also gained a good impression of the city. Anne is an active girl and rattling about the city is not for her, so she prefers woods and fields. During the barely three weeks she has been here, she has already managed to experience quite a few things: I have seen the northern lights and I have been on a few mountain trips, says the student happily.

The intern Anne likes to be active, and has already been to Finnkonnakken together with colleagues from Seria. She goes on to say that Bodø is perfect for her, everything is so close; shopping, nature and my internship. Going forward, she has plans for canoe and kayak trips and a trip to Lofoten is high on her wish list: I’m looking forward to it. On the Internet, I have read about both whale watching and ice surfing and I hope that I can experience both, announces the adventurous girl.

Anne will be here for three months, and is looking forward to experiencing winter before she returns home to the Netherlands to complete the last part of her education: I really like winter and I like that it’s cold here, I hope that I get to experience real snowy weather before I go home, says Anne de Ridder in conclusion.
